Boise River

As an 8th grade World Geo teacher in Meridian, I am always shocked to find out how many students have never been to any part of the Boise River on the Greenbelt. I am trying to apply for a grant that would take us to the Boise River and Table Rock or Reserve. With the recent fire at Table Rock I think it will be especially interesting to see how nature rejuvenates itself.

I was really pleased to hear that Zoo Boise is donating money to help replant and rejuvinate the foothills.  I think they will pay particular attention to the indiginous species and use this as a guidline for replanting.

I teach 6th grade in Boise and I also have students who don't utilize our trails and green belt.  It is a shame that they find video games more exciting.

Have you found a grant application for your trip?

I have found that there are organizations that are thrilled to help you because what you are doing actually helps them meet their goals.  Many groups have education as part of their mission.  Also, they often like it if your trip is part of a larger project with activities that help prepare students for the trip and follow-up that is an extension of what they learned or is an activity using data they collected during the trip.

What would you do on your field trip?
