Here we were taking our first set of measurements at Edson Fichter park. We discussed the many social and scientific issues surrounding our ecosystem.

What measurements are  you taking?  What kinds of tools are you using?  What will the measurements tell us?

Actually, I was taking the photo, so I guess I lied, but i did right after taking the photo. The measurement was Photosynthetically active radiation, often abbreviated PAR, which used to measure the level of light available to photosynthetic organisms to use in the process of photosynthesis.

My measurements were as follows:

  1. Air                                         = 1850 µmol m-2s-1
  2. ~2 inches below surface          = 1650 µmol m-2s-1 (avg.)
  3. ~4 inches below surface          = 850  µmol m-2s-1 (avg.)
  4. ~2 feet below surface              = 6      µmol m-2s-1 (avg.)
