Hey, DigiLearners: A simple task to get you thinking (Scavenger Hunt)

Darcy Hale • Jun 05, 2017

Choose a location near and dear to you.  This could be as small scale as your home, your own backyard, your neighborhood, or on a more communal scale your school campus or favorite park.  Spend some time visually reviewing the characteristics of this location in person, via photos, or via memory.  Do as we did at Edson Fitcher today.  Contemplate:

-something pretty

-something ugly

-something beneficial to the space

-something detrimental to the space

-something to be preserved

-something that needs to be changed

Edison Fichter Park Monday 6-5-17

Will McArthur • Jun 05, 2017

Today we were asked to discover and investigate Edson park with the goal of finding the following items:

  • Something pretty
  • Something ugly
  • Something beneficial
  • Something detrimental to the park
  • Something that needs to be preserved
  • Something that needs to be changed

Then we had an exercise we were asked to make a poster with the intent of improving park.  I have shared these photos just in case there is interest.

Beau Lotto, a British neuroscientist, worked with a class of 8-10 year olds to “make a game” (= design an experiment) to study bee behavior. After experimenting, they met in the local pub to write their paper, which begins “Once upon a time….” The talk is at https://www.ted.com/talks/beau_lotto_amy_o_toole_science_is_for_everyone_kids_included

Their scientific paper was published in the Royal... more

A long time ago in a far away land....and here is some data on that.

I can tell you the historical facts, the dimensions, and the materials and techniques used in Picassos painting Guernica.  I can show you posters, reproductions, and even how to draw or paint it. We could read articles written by famous important art critics. Some would find theses facts enjoyable and many, many, may not. I am even bored to tears after dredging through a factually overloaded historical article written about objects I love. Now for the rest of the story.
