The AL workshop has begun!

Laura Flanagan • Jun 05, 2017

The teachers have arrived! We have been looking forward to the 4th Adventure Learning workshop for many months. Currently, the teachers are making their lunches and filling in their name tags. We are very excited to begin our fun filled day, and get to know each other!

Chocolate Milk River

Stephanie England • Jun 04, 2017

The Portneuf River runs alongside my school. We observe, we study, and we work to understand what makes a river a "healthy" river. I enjoyed watching the videos about some of the work that MILES is doing within our state to positively impact the environment. One thing that stuck out most to me, was the research being done on Marsh Creek. I had no idea the majority of the sediment load was coming from something other than cattle. Research and education on the ways we impact our environment is a great way to have a big impact on the future of Idaho.

Knowledge is Power

I was impressed by the videos I watched as an introduction to this class and the MILES program. I was unaware of the issues that surround me everyday and threaten the enivonment I clearly take for granted.

I enjoy fishing on the Portnuef River, But didn't know that MILES was currently working to improve the eye sore and water quality of the cement channeled section in old town. I drive out to Laa and the Upper Portneuf regularly but was unnware that every time I make that drive I past my a muddy dirty section known as the Marsh River or the issues it faces. I have noticed trails in... more

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink

Moving to Idaho 10 years ago after being raised in Oregon my whole life was a shock and continues to be.  My law enforcement friend calls it the right to die state. With not helmet laws, seat belt laws, smoking laws, etc it sure seems like a different world than one I grew up in.  Unchecked growth in Idaho will be pandora's box, and the reason people move to Idaho will be lost due to the demands of ever expanding needs/wants on its limited resources.  I grew up on a farm that we had to irrigate.  This early perspective of water rights and usage is something I remain conscious of.  The... more

The Portneuf IS a river

Michael H. • Jun 04, 2017

The Portneuf in Pocatello IS a river.  I like the idea of drawing greater attention to this resource flowing right beside us yet often not even seen.  The project of restoring the Portneuf to a cleaner more natural river while still inside of the city is an intriguing idea.  Education is the key and the MILES program is leading the way.

Drink of Water Anyone?

Rebecca Jackson • Jun 03, 2017

As I read about the many ways that MILES is educating the community about the environment and our interactions with it, I think about our everyday conveniences. The amount of water we use throughout the day would be considered wasteful in other areas, but for us it's another day in the neighborhood. I feel that the biggest impact the MILES has on myself and my family is our water quality and ease of acquiring it. I see how we take it for granted, from the making of so many things like the clothes we wear, the materials our house is made with, what we drink and eat, what clean with and what... more
